A New Passion for Cycling

Michael Voit, Director of Architecture, recently shared his passion for cycling with the firm, and the city of Dallas this month. He shares his experience with this relatively new passion with us here.

"Last September, I purchased a road bike. I started out with short rides on trails – usually under 10 miles. Just eight months later, I belong to a local cycling club and participate in organized road rides of 43 miles every Saturday and some Sundays.

"On May 3rd and 4th, I participated in the Bike MS 150 fund raising cycling event. This is a two day rally from Plano, TX to Ft. Worth, TX (Texas Motor Speedway) on a very out of the way route. First day I rode around 88 miles, second day 70 miles – 158 miles total. This is my longest one day ride and my longest two day total. I raised $300 for the MS Society to participate in the ride.

"But that's not all. I recently joined the board of BikeDFW – a local / area cycling advocacy group. We work to support cycling and outdoor activities with the cities and counties in the DFW region. On Friday May 16th, I will volunteer at a booth in downtown Dallas to support the National Bike to Work Day. The event is supported in part by DART – the city’s transit authority and KAI Texas client.

"Last Sunday, I participated in a class to instruct adults about how to ride a bike. We spent four hours with the participants, many of the adults were riding a bike for the first time in their lives. Next week, the class will have a mix of ages."

Help us cheer Michael on and support cycling for improved health and green commuting alternative.
