Big Brothers Big Sisters Makes a Divine Bowl for Kids Sake Appeal
Annual Fundraiser Invites the Community to Help Children Facing Adversity

Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting its 5th Annual Greek Bowl for Kids’ Sake event in Dallas on Saturday, October 25, 2014. The “Greek Bowl” is a personalized version of Bowl for Kids’ Sake – the nation’s largest bowling fundraiser. Members of nine historically Black Greek letter organizations (collectively known as “The Divine Nine”), as well as other community partners, have been raising money all year for children in the Dallas-Fort Worth community and will take to the lanes on Saturday afternoon to show their support for Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring initiatives.

The fundraising goal for this year’s Greek Bowl is $30,000, contributing toward the agency-wide goal of $970,000. Funds raised allow Big Brothers Big Sisters to carefully make more mentoring matches and provide ongoing assistance for mentors (Bigs), mentees (Littles) and families to help sustain long, successful relationships unique to its programs. Each match costs the agency approximately $1,000 annually, so this event will support at least 30 matches in Dallas-Fort Worth. Additionally, funds support mentor recruitment. This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters is focusing its recruitment efforts on Mentor 2.0, a technology-enriched, one-to-one mentoring program directly impacting high school students. Funds raised from this year’s Greek Bowl will aid in closing the mentor recruitment gap on Mentor 2.0, as currently there are 150 unfilled matches in the area.

“As members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and The Divine Nine, we continually strive to provide the support and resources necessary to ensure that children reflecting our culture and heritage have the best chance to succeed in school and in life,” said Roderick Miles, Account Manager and African-American Partnership Manager of Big Brothers Big Sisters. “The Greek Bowl unites advocates from Greek organizations and non-Greek community partners around one mission – to impact our youth. This event presents ALL partners the opportunity to raise awareness for children of color while having fun! It’s the perfect way to celebrate our collective strength and influence as change agents.”

The Greek Bowl is grateful for the underwriting support of its sponsors, allowing Bowl for Kids’ Sake participants to enjoy two free games of bowling, lunch and giveaways. Event sponsors include: Godsey Martin Law Firm, Kemp and Sons General Services, KKDA: K-104, 104.5FM, KRNB: Smooth R&B, 105.7FM, KAI Texas, 30SomethingDallas and the Dallas Alumni Greek Show. This year’s Greek Bowl will take place at USA Bowl, 10920 Composite Drive, Dallas, Texas, 75220. The event starts at 1:00PM and sponsorship opportunities are available onsite or online at:, select “Dallas”.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring organization, holds itself accountable for children in its program to achieve measurable outcomes, such as educational success; avoidance of risky behaviors; and higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships. Partnering with parents/guardians, schools, corporations and others in the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully pairs children (“Littles”) with screened volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) and monitors and supports these one-to-one mentoring matches throughout their course. The first-ever Big Brothers Big Sisters Youth Outcomes Summary, released in 2012, substantiates that its mentoring programs have proven, positive academic, socio-emotional and behavioral outcomes for youth, areas linked to high school graduation, avoidance of juvenile delinquency and college or job readiness. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity, often those of single or low-income households or families where a parent is incarcerated or serving in the military, with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. This mission has been the cornerstone of the organization’s 85-year history. Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star serves over 30,000 children, volunteers and families through 20 offices and over 100 counties in Texas.
